There are many variations of poker. There are games with less than five cards, such as Three-Card Monte, and games with more. All of these variations will be discussed later in this chapter. For games with more than ten players, two separate games can be played. For instance, in Omaha, players can divide the pot evenly between their two highest hands. For these games, the highest hand is usually the winner, but the lowest hand may also win.<\/p>\n
When the game of poker begins, the dealer deals each player one card face-up and one face-down. After each round, there is a betting interval. After the fourth betting interval, the hole cards are revealed. The player with the highest ranking poker combination (called the “first bettor”) is the first bettor. This player must bet a minimum amount of chips during the first betting interval, and may check in later betting intervals.<\/p>\n
There are different betting intervals in poker. One player has the privilege and obligation to make the first bet. The players then divide their winnings equally between them. However, a poker game with a pot limit will limit the number of bets to the amount of money in the pot. However, if all the players are playing with the same hand, a player can raise another player’s bet to break the tie.
