Poker is a card game that involves betting. It is played with a standard deck of 52 cards, with each card having a rank (Ace, King, Queen, Jack) and suit, although some variant games use different cards or add extra cards as jokers. The highest poker hand wins. Each player places a bet before the deal; players may call that bet by putting chips into the pot, raise it, or drop out of the hand altogether. A player can also win by bluffing, betting that their poker hand is better than it is, hoping that players with superior hands will fold and the bluff will succeed.
There are many variations of Poker, but most require that one or more players make forced bets at the start of a hand, called the ante or blind bet. Once these bets have been placed, the dealer shuffles and deals the cards to the players, one at a time starting with the person on their left. The dealt cards are usually either face up or down, depending on the game.
After the first betting round is complete the dealer deals three cards face up on the table that everyone can use, called the flop. Then the second betting round occurs.
